American expert on Georgia, Lincoln Mitchell has responded to the so called South Ossetia’s de facto President Leonid Tibilov’s plan on joining Russia.
“Russia clearly feels that it can do whatever it wants in and with South Ossetia. Georgia has been unable to do anything about that since 2008. The west, for its part, has been more or less disengaged with the conflict region and the conflict itself. I am not sure, however, that I would interpret this news as reason to believe Russia is preparing to annex the rest of Georgia or more of Georgia. I am not saying that isn't possible, but that it seems unlikely”, Mitchell told Accent on Tuesday.
On October 19, Leonid Tibilov announced a plan for referendum on joining Russia.
