Starting from October 1, 2023, Georgia has introduced an electronic face recognition program at its state border to enhance the efficiency of border control.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, this system will enable border guards to instantly and accurately identify individuals who are wanted, deported, banned, or involved in other legal violations when crossing the Georgian border.

“The electronic face recognition program will contribute significantly to public safety. Furthermore, its operation aligns with Georgia’s commitments under various international agreements and facilitates the management of visa-free travel processes, especially with countries in the EU and the Schengen zone,” MIA states.
